    Why we Serve?

    • According to research, an estimated 5 million children in America have at least one parent in jail or prison.

    • Parental incarceration is now recognized as an “adverse childhood experience” (ACE); it is distinguished from other adverse childhood experiences by the unique combination of trauma, shame, and stigma.

    • The loss of a parent to incarceration can have a significant impact on a child. Some of those impacts include financial hardship, the physical care of the child, and psychological distress.

    • Unfortunately, children with incarcerated parents are often forced to give up their dreams and future due to choices made by their parent(s), not through any fault of their own.

    Mentorship Matters

My mentee is wonderful and she reminds me so much of myself because she is a strong outspoken individual  who loves to smile behind the pain. She loves to eat and have fun with her Family and Friends.

This is a memorable photo because it was our first outing together. We were headed to enjoy her first painting session.

"Success isn’t about how much money you make; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”—Michelle Obama

My mentee  is an amazing young lady that shows strength mentally, physically and emotionally. She keeps a positive attitude and doesn't complain one bit.  No excuses will do when it comes to stand in her world. There is nothing that can stop her and I am proud of her. In this picture we are at the Gala celebrating the girls for all their hard work.

“One of the greatest values of mentors is the ability to see ahead what others cannot see and to help them navigate a course to their destination.”

    -John C. Maxwell

My mentee is absolutely remarkable. Over the course of a year I’ve watched her stand proud of the lady she is becoming. She’s smart, funny, talented, and her passion is strong. I absolutely love it! She’s really pulling the stings and winning. I’m so proud of her and can’t wait to see what the next years will bring. We were at Beauty Mark

I watched my mentee dance to Rise Up by Andra Day.

It wasn’t a dry eye in the building.

Taking time to expose our young girls to Women Empowerment!

A  Woman of Essence is an educational awards program recognizing Women in leadership within the community.

In choosing the recipient, several things are considered, including years of service, leadership, and character. We know that achievement and success aren’t by accident. It is our goal and privilege to teach the girls in our program about women who are not afraid to reach for high goals.
